HIGHS
Versatile, priced right, handsomely styled. |
|
LOWS
Big on the outside but not that big on the inside, interior fit and finish is worst-in-class, slow-acting four-wheel-drive system. |
|
| |
WHAT'S NEW
The new Sport and GXP have 264-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 engines, a six-speed manumatic, and a lowered suspension. |
|
BEHIND THE WHEEL
Reasonably car-like handling; base models are slow for the class; GXP/Sport perform well. |

CAPSULE REVIEW
Larger than most compact SUVs, these twins (Chevrolet Equinox and Pontiac Torrent) are only an inch shorter than a Ford Explorer. The rear seat is admirable, but there’s no third row and cargo space is scant. The Equinox and Torrent now have sportier versions—the Sport and GXP, respectively—with 264-hp, 3.5-liter V-6s. |
